Bebe House

Our Bebe House Program closed it’s doors on July 31, 2025. It has been one of our greatest pleasures providing care to the littlest of people in our community for the past 5 years. We wish everyone the best in finding quality infant care, as we know how very important it is!

Our School House Program will remain open and continue as usual with our new owner. We couldn’t be happier handing over our school to the incredible, Kylie Stewart!

Feel free to email us if you have any questions!

The Burrow Bebe utilizes a curriculum inspired by:

The RIE Philosophy

Te Whāriki

We care passionately about respectful, patient, and slow-paced care. We believe each child is born capable and deserving of respect and kindness. There are many philosophies that are centered around this idea, but the two that we feel a deep connection with are R.I.E. and Te Whāriki.

What does this mean exactly?

The RIE philosophy was introduced in the U.S. by Magda Gerber & Dr. Thomas Forrest in 1978 and beautifully lays out how to be an ideal educarer (educator/caregiver). Caregivers of the RIE philosophy approach each child with a sense of WONDER rather than a sense of KNOWING. They care and interact in a way with the infant that communicates, “I want to know and understand who you are, and I’m prepared to help you understand and know who I am.” It aims to achieve a balance between adult stimulation and independent exploration. Her website: www.magdagerber.org/ is an excellent source of information, and you may read through articles for sources of inspiration. Another great resource can be found at Janet Lansbury’s website: www.janetlansbury.com as Janet was mentored by Magda and has great material we regularly reference when in doubt.

New Zealand adopted Māori principles that the Ministry of Education published in 1996 for education based on the idea that each individual child should be the center of the curriculum within a cultural and social context. The text is Te Whāriki and states that all children are born competent, capable, and secure and able to make a valued contribution to society. This text is frequently revised to accommodate the changing demographic, culture, and society amongst its citizens to be inclusive and aware. The values of the Māori people, alongside the curriculum created to reflect those values, overlaps and compliments the RIE philosophy and can also be reviewed: https://tewhariki.tki.org.nz/
